Fire Rated Doors for Modern Architecure
Fire doors are often the quiet protectors of architecture. They are designed to withstand heat, resist smoke, and maintain structural integrity when everything else gives way. Behind their form lies an intricate blend of engineering and material science, ensuring that safety is built into the very framework of a building. And yet, modern fire doors do more than protect they complement design, enhance transparency, and preserve the warmth of tradition.
Doors and Doors Systems India Pvt. Ltd. has taken this philosophy to heart. With collaborations with global leaders such as AIS Glass Solutions Ltd. and Promat, the company has redefined fire doors with two distinct offerings: Glazed Fire Rated Doors (FR System 50) and Wooden Fire Rated Doors (FRD). Each serves a unique need, carrying its own blend of engineering, craftsmanship, and timeless appeal.
THE GLAZED FIRE RATED DOOR - FR SYSTEM 50
At first glance, a fire-rated glass door may sound contradictory. How can transparency withstand fire? The answer lies in AIS Pyrobel-T (12mm–16mm) fire-rated glass, manufactured in India and tested rigorously as per EN 1634-1 / IS 16945 standards at NABL-accredited laboratories. The result: a door that delivers 120 minutes integrity (E120), 120 minutes radiation control (EW120), and 30 minutes insulation (EI30).
PRECISION IN ENGINEERING
The FR System 50 is a flush-fitted door set with a profile depth of 50mm, using cold-rolled European technology. Its profile is made from 1.5mm structural steel, coated with 20-micron zinc at a density of 7.1 g/cu.m, fully compliant with PN-EN 10142 specifications. Finely welded 115mm x 24.5mm hinges secure the 50mm-thick door leaf, a sleek construction with 70mm stiles and top & bottom rails, completely free of visible joints.
Inside, the frame is packed with mineral wool insulation (96kg/m³ minimum density), while the door leaf is equipped with a fire-resistant rebate gasket that forms a reliable barrier against smoke.
PROPERTIES THAT REDFINE STANDARDS
- Slim Cold-Roll Profile: European precision, minimalistic yet robust.
- Custom Finishes: Available in any RAL colour, compatible with Dorma or Geze hardware, and adaptable to concealed door closers.
- Transparency with Strength: Light transmission at 87% (LT) for unmatched clarity.
- Scale: Available in XXL formats up to 3 meters high.
- Performance: Certified across fire-resistance classes, including EW 120 minutes and EI 20 minutes.
- Durability: EN 12600 1B1 certification for impact resistance, alongside UV, water, and impact protection.
- Quality Assurance: 100% Heat Soak Tested.
- Versatility: Compatible with AIS thermal insulation and solar protection coatings.
- Temperature Tolerance: Reliable performance between –10°C to +50°C.
More than a safety measure, the FR System 50 is a vision of transparency without compromise, designed for environments that value openness and resilience in equal measure. It also helps maintain visibility along escape routes, improving safety during emergencies.
THE WOODEN FIRE RATED DOOR – FRD
If the glazed fire door reflects modernist ideals, the Wooden Fire Rated Door speaks of warmth, tradition, and enduring strength. Crafted from Red Meranti wood for both 60-minute and 120-minute variants — with options for other solid woods — these doors combine natural elegance with advanced fire resistance. Their performance is fortified by Promat calcium silicate boards — Promatect H, Promina 60, and L500 — engineered to reinforce the core under fire.
TESTED TO GLOBAL STANDARDS
The Wooden FRD has been tested at NABL-approved laboratories in India in accordance with BS 476-20:1987 Part 20/22 standards, proving compliance for both 60-minute and 120-minute integrity, stability, and insulation. Beyond testing, quality assurance is built into every stage, from inspection at installation to evaluation post-performance.
KEY PROPERTIES AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
- Versatility in Size: Single and double-leaf doors from 900mm to 1100mm wide, 2000mm to 3000mm high, and thicknesses between 45mm and 90mm.
- Durability: Advanced construction methods prevent delamination, supported by a 10-year warranty.
- Hardware Excellence: Heavy-duty butt or concealed hinges with premium German ironmongery.
- Concealed or Exposed Closers: Options for subtle concealed door closers or traditional exposed versions.
- Enhanced Safety: Door leaves can be provided with or without vision panels. Each leaf is equipped with intumescent smoke seals.
- Design Flexibility: Available in bare, laminated, or high-grade veneer, finished in PU with high-gloss or open pore to highlight their natural texture.
GLASS OR WOOD: CHOOSING THE RIGHT GUARDDIAN
Both the FR System 50 and the Wooden FRD are benchmarks of modern fire safety, each aligned to a distinct architectural vision.
- Glass brings light, clarity, and openness. Ideal for corporate offices, high-end retail, and public spaces where transparency reflects modernity.
- Wood offers warmth, richness, and structural assurance. Suited for residences, hotels, and institutions where tradition and elegance are as vital as safety.
Today’s fire doors transcend function. They are crafted as statements of design and engineering, standing tall as both protectors and style icons. Whether it is the extraordinary clarity of glass or the enduring charm of wood, Doors and Doors Systems has created solutions that redefine what safety can look like.
These fire-rated doors prevent flames, smoke, and toxic gases from moving between rooms or compartments. Active systems like sprinklers, alarms, and smoke detectors play their role, but without fire doors and barriers, their effectiveness is limited.
Passive protection, as in the case of fire-rated doors, is the silent shield that works round the clock, silently buying time for emergency operations to reach the site and ensuring that people have the chance to escape and survive in the event of a fire.
From zinc-coated steel to Promat boards, from towering glass panels to polished veneers, every detail underscores a single promise: safety with sophistication.
